I took this photograph of my friend Native American Randel Dancing Elk, Minikowoju Lakota at the Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival in Newhall, California. The festival preserves and promotes the cowboy/cowgirl heritage and way of life.

I wanted the final photograph to tell a story of one aspect of the native American culture.

Jerry Cowart - My journey with photography is an ongoing and ever-evolving process. I am challenged to slow down each and every day in this busy world and to stop and admire all the beauty by which I am surrounded.

What I have discovered is to enjoy the moment, to love the sound of the shutter as it goes off and be lost in the joy of that one perfect moment, and be able to capture it in my camera. For that one magic moment, and in the blink of an eye it will be gone, I see the perfection and beauty in a world that is not always kind and loving as I would want it to be.

My photography is about seeing and experiencing the beauty all around me and hoping it will move the viewer in a way they feel what I felt in that moment, in that once-in-a-lifetime moment that has now been caught in the beauty of a print for all to see.

It is my intention through my original fine art photography to share the beauty and perfection I see with those that view my work. A portion of my photo sales go to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society which helps blood cancer patients live better, longer lives, and to Veterans, Inc., an organization that serves veterans and their families across America. I will also be donating to a few save the wild horses organizations.
