Alness, Ro - United Kingdom

what an interesting subject to study, can imagine the stories to be told from all of the lighthouses I bet theres a few for each one! they always remind me of the Famous Five books!

Daniel Dempster replied:

Most of the lights have much more than one story behind them and quite a few are supposedly haunted. I spent the night at the base of this light and I can tell you it is very spooky. The freighter Edmund Fitzgerald went down off of this point with the loss of all aboard.

Love this too the colours against the shades are beautiful.. I live 16 miles from Tarbetness Lighthouse.. The very last Lighthouse in Britain to have the red and white stripes.. its a shame they arent used anymore but nice to see they still fill the landscape with beautiful shapes!

Daniel Dempster replied:

Thank you Dawn. This light is extremely remote. I spent 2 1/2 years shooting lighthouses throughout the Great Lakes region for a coffee-table book on the subject. I then spent another 2 years shooting the lighthouses in the southern US for another book. They are indeed a beautiful subject for photographs.

Campo Grande, Ma - Brazil

That's it a paradise! Perfect capture.

Daniel Dempster replied:

Thank you. It is in a very remote location. I spent the night at the base of the tower and I think I was the only human being for miles around. It was a bit spooky. The Edmund Fitzgerald sank off of this point back in 1975 with a loss of the entire crew. Gordon Lightfoot wrote a song about it that was a hit many years ago.
