Description
Cor viride (latin for Green Heart), originally entitled The Rite of Spring, has been conceived as an offering to the Life-giving Goddess, especially in her Maiden aspect (such as Vesna, the Slavic goddess of spring, birth and renewal). Thus, the current title refers to a youthful, bursting heart - both Hers and mine. What about yours, is it green too?! Do you hear Her call? Do you care about the environment and want to be its rightful protector/protectress?
When I paint abstractions, I paint in an alternation of dance-like exuberance and contemplative, almost meditative self-absorbance. The pieces are usually executed alla prima, in a single wet-on-wet session. Here I used oil paints, along with raw oils and pigments and some "special ingredients" I picked up during my pilgrimages to nature reserves. The composition emerged casually, and it was only after shooting and looking at this very picture (the painting itself is still too wet to put in an upright position) that I realized it is heart-shaped! Sunshine emanates from it and sprouting begins...
As with all my works, Cor viride has PAINTED SIDES. The finest Italian linen, medium texture, and wide stretcher bars were used for the canvas, so it can be wall-mounted without frames. Its special feature is that it GLOWS IN THE DARK.
