I refilled the feeders yesterday afternoon and sat out with my camera to capture some of our migrating hummingbirds. Most were not interested in posing, but this male Ruby-Throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) gave me a nice look at his copper-iridescent throat (gorget). This is a very tight crop to show some of the details. These birds are typically around 3 inches (7 to 9 cm) from tip to tail, and weigh in at a whopping 0.1 to 0.2 oz (2 to 6 grams).
