Description
The first "Confederation" steam locomotive (road number 6200) was delivered to the Canadian National Railways (CNR) 1927, the 60th anniversary of Canadian confederation. A total of 20 of these (Class U-2a) were built by Canadian Locomotive Works (CLW) and 20 more (Class-U2b) were built by Montreal Locomotive Works (MLW) in 1927. They had a wheel arrangement of 4-8-4. Confederation locomotives were used until the 1950s.
A total of six Confederation Locomotives of various types still survive. The one in this picture (Road number 6200) is preserved and on display at the Canada Science and Technology Museaum in Ottawa. The Museum has a second specimen (Road Number 6400, built in 1936) also on display..
