Colorful Georgia Pokeberry
Artist
Carla Parris
Medium
Photograph - Digital Photograph
Description
Pokeberry, also called pokeweed, pigeon berry, and inkberry, is a lovely wild plant, but its not for eating – notwithstanding its luscious looking berries. While the gangly, ungainly plant with colorful stems and pleasing foliage does provide food to some birds and animals, it is not safe for humans.
These branches of bright green leaves, purplish pink stalks, and plump white, magenta, and blackish purple berries was photographed growing wild in the hot summer sun in a horse pasture in Edison, Georgia.
