Painting - Watercolor And Gouache
Color Sergeant George A. Branard of the First Texas infantry under General John Bell Hood's famed Texas Brigade. Branard is shown here as the Color bearer with the Lone Star Texas state flag that was made from the silk of the wedding dress belonging to the wife of Louis T. Wigfall. The flag was edged in black crepe as a memorial to the members of the regiment who fell at the battle of Sharpsburg MD in September of 1862.
