Thanks Ira. This bridge really is an awesome sight. You can walk across it and look down 600 feet into the Avon Gorge below. I don't have a head for heights, but have walked across here numerous times, it's awe inspiring. Another of Brunel's amazing brides is the I.K. Brunel bridge at Saltash, which carries the railway line between Devon & Cornwall. Worth having a look on Google. I don't know if he influenced Roebling but Brunel was a genius, way ahead of his time.

Brunel certainly was brilliant. He achieved so much with the limited tools at his disposal. He truly paved the way. Not sure if the American Roebling engineering family of Trenton, New Jersey were influenced by Brunel or not. They built the famous Brooklyn Bridge and other daring suspension bridges across Niagara Falls and at Cincinnati, Ohio. Beautiful photograph!! Would like to see this bridge some day.
