Sailing the Maine Coast is very unpredictable! We were just starting our sail north to Mount Desert Island and our first stop was Christmas Cove. Everyone raved about the adorable cove just at the entrance to the Damariscotta River. Never in my life have I ever been so excited to see calm waters. The sail up the coast was so rough, with four to five foot seas. Dancing Again held her own, as did my husband, who I now consider to be a world class sailor. He navigated the rough waters and strong winds alone because I was basically curled up in a ball with involuntary muscle shaking! In all honestly, I am definitely a fair weather sailor and feel much more comfortable with seas between two and three feet with the winds between five and fifteen knots! I am sure that it was my perception only because my husband was seriously having the time of his life!
We did make it safely to Christmas Cove which is the perfect cove to rest up in after a long day of sailing! We cooked on the boat grill and rested up for the next day. The photo was taken in the early morning hours with the fog just starting to enter the harbor. The water was so calm and the reflections were so clear and crisp.

The small coastal village of Christmas Cove in Maine is so named because Captain John Smith — who played an important role in establishing the first English colony in Virginia — visited the cove on December 25, 1614.
