Description
Walking west on Adams Street, this geometric display of light and shadow captivated my eye on the Adams-Franklin Building.
The umbra (Latin for “shadow”) is the innermost and darkest part of a shadow, where the light source is completely blocked by the occluding body. An observer in the umbra experiences a total eclipse. The penumbra (from the Latin paene “almost, nearly”) is the region in which only a portion of the light source is obscured by the occluding body. An observer in the penumbra experiences a partial eclipse. ~Source
I have no doubt folks were walking past me wondering exactly what I was doing photographing the corner of the building. However, George Eastman got it right when he famously said “Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography.”
All proceeds will be donated to Chicago's Cornerstone Community Outreach in honor of photographer Richard Cleis, 1965-2021.
