Description
In Chicago, the Loop is an elevated rail track that is roughly 1.8 miles long and completely encircles Chicago’s downtown which is known as the Loop. There are approximately 75,000 people who ride the CTA inside of the Loop on a daily basis stopping at the 9 remaining CTA stations. In this picture, we are looking North towards the Trump Tower from the Adams & Wabash station.
There were originally 12 elevated stations within the Loop. Randolph and Wells which was closed in 1995. Madison and Wells were closed in 1994. Dearborn and Van Buren were closed in 1949. State and Van Buren was closed in 1973, and Fifth and Lake were closed in 1899. Many of these aforementioned stations were consolidated into some of the remaining stations. Of note, the Washington and Wabash station was closed in 2015 and was reopened in 2017. These trains make Chicago an easy city to get around. Almost every CTA line makes it into the Chicago Loop making it easy to get just about anywhere you want to go. As a tourist flying into either Midway or O’Hare airports, you can take the CTA straight into the city bypassing the taxis altogether.
All proceeds will be donated to Chicago's Cornerstone Community Outreach in honor of photographer Richard Cleis, 1965-2021.
