Description
In view are the windows of One North State Building from the Northwest corner of Wabash Avenue and Madison Street. This part of the building was constructed in 1900 and known as the Central Trading Company Building. Over the years this building would expand in three building phases and cover a city block. This building would become the storefront for the Mandel Brothers Department Store. Mandel along with Carson Pirie Scott from across the street would help to make Wabash and Madison the world’s busiest street corner.
I took this photograph from the Washington/Wabash platform shortly after sunrise while the early sunlight was still soft. The play of light and shadow on the details of the terra-cotta was in a word, beautiful.
All proceeds will be donated to Chicago's Cornerstone Community Outreach in honor of photographer Richard Cleis, 1965-2021.
