Forest Canyon in Rocky Mountain National Park was carved out by immense glacier activity and the Big Thompson River.
This image was taken near the roadside of Trail Ridge Road (Highway to the Sky). the highest continuous paved road in the USA. It passes through three unique ecosystems and rises up over 12,000 feet.
The ridge line that you are viewing is part of the Continental Divide, with the water on this side drains to the East, and on the other side, to the west, including the headwaters of the mighty Colorado River.
Trail Ridge Road (US Highway 34) crosses the Divide and offers pullouts and views of the Rockies in all directions.
