In the 6th grade, I had the great fortune to live at Doheny. I remember going out onto PCH to wait for the bus to Palisades School. It was cold and I stared endlessly at the old Richfield Tower across the street, dreaming that one day I'd climb the thing to catch a bird's eye at my favorite surf spot, "Bone Yard", "Alligator Rock" and "Charlies" (my apology if I don't recall the exact names...I was a kid).
Occasionally My sixth grade teacher would pull over in his convertible and pick me up. Mr. Rose was a trained classical singer and to this day, I consider him my best teacher. He taught me curiosity, to speak up, and to challenge things if they didn't make sense. The guy was great!
A morning memory of waiting for the school bus and the smile of remembrance of a great instructor!
