Description
This sweet little butterfly is called a Gray Ministreak Butterfly and it was enjoying this pink Bachelor Button flower; it didn’t move as I got closer to photograph it which is unusual but I suppose it found a good source for nectar. This is a front view of the butterfly and you can see it is sipping the nectar from the flower as it straddles the petals.
Gray Ministreak Butterflies (Ministrymon azia) are very small, less than a half inch to three quarters of an inch in length. They are only seen in four states in the U.S. one of which is Texas where this one is.
Bachelor Buttons are also known as cornflowers. They are in the Asteraceae family and they are native to Europe but are planted with the wild flowers here in the south because they are such hardy flowers.
