Description
The Bridge of Sighs in Venice, Italy, as one of the most famous bridges in the world, is very deserving of the huge amount of attention it receives. Surrounded by legend and folklore, it is easy to understand it's allure. Constructed in the early 17th Century and designed by Italian architect Antonio Contino, this surprisingly little, but ever so impressive bridge has stood the test of time and attracts visitors from all corners of the globe, to it's little corner of Venezia. Once used as a walkway to connect the Doge's Palace with the prison, it has been said that the bridge's name came about because prisoners heading to their execution would look out of the small windows and sigh at what they believed would be their final view of their beloved Venice. If this is true or not is anyones guess but I prefer to believe that it got it's name because you can't help but sigh when you glimpse it for the first time, just as I did. I hand blended textures with my original photograph in black and white to compliment the old world feel of this classic Venetian scene.
