Description
The bridge of Saint Paul (Puente de San Pablo) in Cuenca Spain was built in stone between 1533 to 1589. At the time it was made up of five arches supported by pillars. Its construction over the gorge of the River Huecar was intended to connect the Convent of San Pablo with the city. It deteriorated over the years and was finally demolished at the end of the 19th century. The current footbridge, the entrance of which is shown here, was built in 1902. It is the most significant example in the city of the Eiffel-type iron architecture of the time. The footbridge is approximately 40 meters (~131 feet) above the floor of the gorge. Its length is approximately 110 meters (361 feet). From the bridge you can have a fantastic view of the famed “casas colgadas," or hanging houses cantilevered over the Huecar gorge.
