The Boykin Spaniel is the state dog of South Carolina. Early 1900s a small spaniel was bred in Boykin South Carolina for hunting ducks and wild turkeys in rivers and swamps. The Boykin Spaniel was recognized by AKC as a breed in 2007. Boykin Spaniel Day is celebrated in South Carolina Sept 1
