BOSTON COMMON GARDENS-GEORGE WASHINGTON TRIBUTE sits at the Arlington Street entrance to Boston Public Gardens next to Boston Commons area. The bronze statue was erected by Thomas Ball. It took Mr. Ball 4 years to complete the mold but due to the Civil War which was being fought at the time of completion, there was a scarcity of bronze. It wasn't until a few years later the statue was cast. It was erected in place and unveiled July 3, 1869. The statue itself is 22 feet tall, sits on a granite pedestal which is 16 feet high totalling 38 feet in height. It is surrounded by the beautiful gardens which can be seen throughout.
