Painting - Watercolor On Paper
Description
I finally finished my second painting of the year. It has been a bit slow-going with all the school closures that have been happening, etc... I used an all Daniel Smith palette for this one and am really enjoying using their high-quality watercolor paints. Since my previous piece was very warm-leaning, I thought I would test out some of Daniel Smith's cool leaning colors for this piece. I went a bit looser in areas than some of my previous work but I am pleased with the end result. The original is 9.75"x13.75" in size and is painted on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper.

Fabulous watercolor work! So delicate and lovely, wonderful use of light! You have a breathtaking gallery of work! F/V
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you very much Angela! I wanted to create a slightly diagonal composition where it progressed from light to dark and, at the same time, increased in detail as the eye moved to the darker area. Fun experiment!

Beautiful painting, Ken! The diagonal composition adds even more to the image.

Yes, best one yet! There is so much depth to this painting. It's no wonder it sold so quickly!
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Brett! I put a lot of thought into the light and shadow in this painting. I wanted to create a lot of dimensionality while still attempting to remain very loose in the upper left corner areas. This will be a tough one for me to top I think.

Hi Ken, I agree with Marsha. Great piece of work. Love the contrast between the bright to shadow area.
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you William! I put a lot of thought into the composition of this piece and really focused on the movement of the light as the eye crosses the piece. This will be a tough one for me to top as I think it might be one of my best florals yet! LOL

Ken, I have been trying to comment on this for hours....I hope it goes through this time. Exquisite. I believe your best painting that I have seen. The light and shadow shows how you are growing as an artist. Really nice work. Jealous!
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Sandra! I appreciate the kind words. I am always trying to improve and even though I have always focused on light and shadow, I think my technical presentation of it is definitely starting to get better.
Petrolia, On - Canada
Stunning, exquisite, spectacular!! Ken, the light on the flowers against the deep dark background brings such life to the painting! I think this is your best yet!!
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Peggy! I think I agree that this could be my best floral yet. I really worked hard on the composition and use of light.
