Description
Arriving in Asheville mid October I was surprised how green everything still was, even as I was driving up to Craggy Gardens, the surrounding mountains were mostly green, with only a few trees showing some sort of color. Once I got to Craggy Gardens the trees there were bare. The same thing then happened the following day when I headed south on the Blue Ridge Parkway – green was the color for the day for the most part, while the trees at Graveyard Fields had mostly dropped their leaves already. It appeared I had arrived at some weird "in between" time for capturing any fall colors. Also, with the cold front all the clouds were gone, and I had deep blue skies for the first three days. This all didn’t look too promising for pictures and I so wasn’t feeling it. This isn’t to say I didn’t enjoy the drive along the parkway. It’s always a great drive, no matter what.
Anyhow, after staying in Asheville for a few days I headed north to Blowing Rock for the second part of my trip. And things slowly started to change. The further north I went, the more colorful the trees got.
