Blue Poppies, Watercolor On Yupo
Painting - Watercolor On Yupo
Delicate Blue Poppies dance on a breezy summer day, watercolor on Yupo, by Conni Schaftenaar.
Yupo paper and how to paint on it has been the topic of my watercolor class for the past 3 weeks - frustrating medium with watercolor, but has so many different possibilities from painting on paper that I keep picking at how to work with it decently. This is one of two I did as part of the class (the other is on my gallery, also, of dwarf irises).
This one is done in Thalo Blue and Sap Green, primarily, with a little Gamboge for the stamen centers. First I covered the sheet with Thalo Blue, dropped in an area of Sap Green, then covered the sheet with a piece of plastic wrap, squishing it around to make the colors run and meld and the interesting lines to form in the background. After the sheet had dried for a couple of days, I pulled off the plastic wrap, drew the poppies onto the background, and used Thalo Blue to fill them in, with Sap Green again in the leaves and stems.
