Blue Lit Butterfly

Description
This is a photograph of an predominantly blue butterfly (Blue Morpho/Owl Butterfly) taken in the Enmax Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo before the recent flooding. The photograph was taken through a glass window pane which allowed me to get much closer to and get a better angle of the butterfly as this variety was quite skittish.

Awesome. Almost spooky. It's like the butterfly is lit from inside. Very very cool :) v/f

WOW what perfect sharp focus with only the butterfly sharp and everything else soft. Beautiful color and wonderful density both in highlights and shadows, and I'd vote it a 10 if the butterflly wasn't dead centered in the composition.

So pretty and great detail and focus on the butterfly. I love taking images of butterflies. I don't see many blue ones and I am really enjoying this picture.

Love butterflies, but it seems like in Arizona we do not see many of them, could be the dry heat. Though some areas of the state you can see them. Arizona is all desert, it has the largest Ponderosa pine forest in the world. And we get to see him there we visit.love your processing and depth of field.

It's unfortunate that we don't see many of them here either in Alberta (although the odd day we might see quite a few). Thank you Nadine and Bob!

Gorgeous...I those are the same butterflies that are native to central America.
Matthew Naiden replied:
Thanks Susan,I believe you are right. This is actually the same butterfly as the "Owl Butterfly" macro that I have taken, only with it's wings open (quite a difference I must say)!
