One of the things about which I have a passion is doing things right.
A relentless pursuit of excellence.
It is what my parents taught me.
And what I endeavor to do to the very best of my ability to honor their legacy.
And to bring honor to the Creator who made all this beauty we get to enjoy.
Including the preparation of a portrait of this majestic black-tailed jackrabbit (Lepus californicus) ~ a.k.a. American desert hare ~ for presentation on my portfolio here on www.PropheticPortraits.net.
While driving away from my appointment after delivering Shaklee organic cleaning products to a long-time client, I felt the gentle nudge of the precious Holy Spirit to take a side street out of the park.
Almost immediately, a small jackrabbit ~ perhaps a juvenile ~ scampered across the road from my right to left and into a bed of vibrant pink geraniums.
I carefully pulled over and quietly got my camera out. Cautiously approaching where the speedy creature was, I kept a respectful distance and began taking photos as it emerged from the vibrant geraniums.
This photo is of the jackrabbit's best pose as it regarded me with an alert look. My first time seeing one up close... quite an amazing experience.
Quick and shy, these hares ~ technically not rabbits ~ are made for speed. They can run 35 to 40 MPH and jump a distance of up to 18 feet to escape danger.
Grateful to God for perfect timing: Within a minute after this image was made, the jackrabbit disappeared into the brush. A minute later, a man came by walking his dog, which would have scared off the hare.
Beauty is all around us if we stop, look and enjoy.

Artwork Notes ::
Embedded in the top right-hand corner is the Hebrew acronym for "B'ezras Hashem”[ב ס " ד] meaning "with God's help". It is a reminder to me as an artist and photographer of my dependence on the Almighty, the Originator of all creativity. This is a similar acknowledgement used by great artists like Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel who signed their work with the Latin phrase, "Soli Deo gloria" which means, "Glory to God alone".
