Black Box 16 Magus Blind
Painting - Mixed Media Piece Featuring Encaustic, Oil And Various Metals.
My "Black Box" constructions are an exploration of the mysterious process of creating a talismanic object, an object that can transport a viewer by the force of its inherent riddle, out of utilitarian objects. Various metals and mechanisms previously made to function in a machine are here given new context as symbols of volition. The boxes often contain eggs, an obvious symbol of potential and life. Screens are employed to refer to the hidden; keys are used to symbolize a way of gaining access to power. Ultimately, however, the pieces are to be experienced uniquely by each viewer, who will provide their own personal context for all of these symbolic objects that make up each piece.
