They say you can judge a bison’s mood by its tail. When it hangs down and switches naturally, the bison is calm. If the tail is standing straight up, watch out! This one seems to be at about half mast so there is no telling. So you better watch out. Bison are BIG (the largest mammal in North America and they are fast (they can run up to 35 miles per hour). Plus, they’re extremely agile and are strong swimmers. The American bison was named the national mammal of the United States on May 9, 2016 (what took so long?). This majestic animal joins the ranks of the Bald Eagle as the official symbol of the USA.
