Manufacture of natural health supplements and fortifiers remains largely unregulated based on current legal and regulatory loopholes. While Big Pharma and its legitimate and regulated medications may have problems, the world of natural supplements is the wild, wild west!

We have moved only marginally beyond "snake oil" in covered wagon shows.Deliberate adulteration of natural biologic "wonder products" with stimulants or Viagra-like medications should be assumed rather than "just" worried about currently.

There are now many reports of severe or life-threatening liver damage attributed to hepatotoxic plants or improperly prepared plant products included in the mix of biologics in some of these supplement. Fatalities have been reported. These problems may ultimately drive the FDA to become more involved in regulation of natural supplements (hopefully).

The use of nature-based biologic supplements should be approached with the same single precaution applied millennia ago--caveat emptor (let the Buyer beware). Profit motives for many supplement makers and distributors often exceed the concern over the public's safety.
