Description
This is another in my series of floral paintings that are exploring the use of dark backgrounds and highly lit petals. This particular piece created some difficulties since it predominantly white but I still wanted to reveal a bit of petal structure. I played around with a few experimental blades of grass in this one and even resorted to scraping in some blades through the dark background. The original piece is painted with Rublev and Daniel Smith watercolor paints on Arches 140# cold-pressed paper and is 9.75"x13.75" in size.

wonderful ken..just beautifull....and so billowy
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Robin! I still don't know what type of flower this is. Funny, considering it grows on my property. I tried to kill it with the lawn mower for years but it kept coming back. Turns out I actually like it! LOL

Very, very nice, Ken! The little touches of color in this white flower really makes it shine against the dark background. Beautiful!
Ken Powers replied:
Thank you Bette! I tried to add a bit of pizzazz to the white flower by accentuating some of those subtle colors.

Spectacular work on this, Ken....the thumbnail looked just like a photo. I like the gentle way you separated the petals on top.....along with the strong shadows underneath.

Excellent indeed!
Ken Powers replied:
Thanks Sandra! The grass in the foreground was a bit of an experiment but I think it worked out.
