Description
The Berlin Wall is known far and wide. This section of the Berlin Wall is found on Long Wharf in Portland Maine just off Commercial Street. The original Berlin Wall separated and completely cut off West Berlin from East Berlin. It was called the "Anti-Fascist Protection Rampart" implying that NATO countries and West German were Fascist. President Ronald Reagan gave the famous speech on June 12, 1987 asking Mr. Gorbachev to tear down this wall. Finally in 1989, the destruction of the Berlin wall began. Taking the hundred mile and twelve foot wall down finally concluded in 1992. Sections of the wall are found all over the world. We are lucky to have a piece of the wall in Portland Maine. The history behind the wall is vast and this historical artifact has inspired me to learn more about the wall and it's demise.

Intriguing image. Great capture as a reminder to all of us.

Thank you Michele! I was amazed when I saw it, virtually right in my own back yard.
