Description
Beauty Of Irises. Chaos Theory Petal Macro by Jenny Rainbow.
Macro photograph of unique looking Tall Bearded Iris 'Chaos Theory' (Barry Blyth, R. 2014). Trial garden of PruhoniceIris collection.
Prague, May, 2020
Standards none; style arms white; falls (6) mid violet, large white area around beards covering about 1/3 fall area, 3 top falls cover nearly all the lower 3; beards orange; flat form.
From Tempo Two catalog, 2015: CHAOS THEORY (Blyth 2015) . This is a real novelty for us: a flat Iris. So often flat Iris appear in the seedling rows and they are so unstable with form, reverting to a normal Tall Bearded. 'Total Chaos' is consistent, no standards, just 6 falls and 6 beards. Style arms are white and prominent, while the falls are mid violet with a large white area covering around 1/3 of the fall, spraying our like a starburst.
Flat Flowers - Return to Novelty Irises.
Generally the standards (inner flower segments) rise and the falls (outer flower segments) fall giving the appearance of a standard Iris flower. But in flat irises the standards present just as the falls and sometimes even have beards like the falls. This flower form is a novelty among bearded irises and also in siberians. It has become a standard of form in the Japanese and Iris laevigata such that they are generally referred to as 6 fall varieties. With that kind of acceptance they are not included here as a novelty but only those plants that present a japanese iris look on a otherwise different looking class.
