An amazing view of the Baptistery of St John in Florence Italy viewed from my room at a B&B! When I planned my trip to Florence Italy, I decided to stay close to the Piazza del Duomo for convenience but I didn’t know how great it would be until I arrived! I couldn't believe the eye-popping view when I got to my room, where I was REALLY this close to the Baptistery as well as Il Duomo (aka, the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore or Saint Mary of the Flower)! I loved having this amazing view at all times of the day. The Baptistery was first described in 897 as a minor basilica. In 1128 it was consecrated as the Baptistery of Florence and thus is the oldest religious monument in Florence. Up until the end of the 19th century, all Catholics in Florence were baptized there. Its exterior is made in geometrically patterned white Carrara marble and green Prato marble that is typical of Florentine Romanesque architecture. The cathedral, Baptistery, cathedral and Giotto's Campanile are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site covering the historic centre of Florence and are a major attraction.
