Title
Back Burning Backfires In Banff Canada
Artist
Angela Stanton
Medium
Photograph - Photograph Panorama
Description
15 years ago the Banff area department of forestry decided to create a bit of a back fire to prevent big fires. They planned on 2000 acres that ended up in 10000 acres. The growth period in this area at these high altitudes and very frigid winters is 6 weeks long. So the little new growth you see on the ground are 15-year old spruce babies!

'Like!' I see lots of similar views here in Colorado, but your image here is much better looking than the dead pine trees in the local mountains. Nice one. v
Angela Stanton replied:
And the trees sort of grow back faster in Colorado than here... see those little 12-inch mini spruce? They are 15 years old!! How big would a spruce get in Colorado in 15 years? Perhaps a 100 feet tall or more?
