Section through the basilar papilla with long to short transitional hair cells and the outgoing auditory nerve. Above the basilar papilla lies the tectorial membrane, which has been lifted and cut open for clarity.

Artistic materials:
The illustration is based on pre-illustrated individual details (Schmincke watercolors, Polychromos colored pencils…) put together and supplemented by digital processing.
