Description
Autumn is upon us and the corn stalks are passing by. They gave us some yummy sweet corn this year! Ooo nothing better than home grown vegetables! In researching the corn tassel, I learned that this is a male plant and the corn tassel job is to produce pollen that encourages the growth and ripening of the corn ear. Wind carries the pollen to the female flower, or the silk, on the corn plant.

"Corn is also the symbol of many Native American Clans. Corn also features prominently in Native American folklore. The Cherokee, Iroquois, and Apache all have tales about how corn came to be part of man’s diet - and these stories usually involve an old woman presenting corn as a gift to someone young."
"Ceres was the Roman goddess of grain, specifically corn, and of the harvest season. According to Roman legend, she was the one who taught mankind how to farm. She is associated with agricultural fertility and a bountiful harvest. Make her an offering, and she may well protect your crops from natural disasters such as flooding or blight."

I was out walking Genevieve, our Golden Retriever, and decided to take a few shots of my garden. I just love this combination of harvest, art and blue sky. Looking forward to next year when we will plan another garden!
