Description
Australian Darter (Anhinga novaehollandiae) taken in Townsville, North Queensland at Anderson Park. These birds swim under the water to catch thier fish sometimes using thier beak as spears. Australian Darters (Anhinga novaehollandiae) physically dart under the water to catch their dinner. Thier frontal feathers almost resemble fur. They're amazing birds to watch. When they've finished, they sit by the water with their wings outstretched to dry their feathers. This one is a male, the female's have lighter markings particularly down the front.

Wonderful composition of this very inquisitive and interesting bird. We have something similar here Evie named the grey herring. Beautiful shot. Thank you for all your kind words both here and on face book, very much appreciated :)
