Drawing - Color Pencil On Pastel Paper
This artwork was created in 1986. My main medium back in the day was color pencil on pastel paper. I used to create these fantasy scapes with made up characters and elements. This artwork was inspired by Dr. Seuss & Hieronymus Bosch's Earthly Delights. I have a large body of work that I created in color pencil. I had a few shows, including one on Madison Avenue in New York City, called The Great Salt Marsh. I had someone love my work and they commissioned me to paint on like 10 capes. The business relationship fell through because I shared my business card with the gallery owner and the art patron didn't like that. This was so long ago. I was right out of college, and a bit naive. Most of the capes SOLD. The art on them was inspired by this piece. I used a combination of metallic fabric paint and acrylics to paint each piece. They were kind of cool if not creepy. My work was so different back then. A lot of them had human figures and faces on them. I also hung my art work at the old 1227 on Washington Ave. and Zone 8 in the Central West End in St. Louis. My very first solo art show was at a frame shop in Kirkwood, Missouri. My second solo show was at Componere Art Gallery on Delmar Ave., University City, MO. Late 80s. 90% of the show was color pencil art, all matted and framed behind glass.
