The Assateague Market is the "last stop" for visitors before getting to Assateague Island and the twim parks - the Assateague Island National Seashore (AINS) and the Assateague State Park, a Maryland park facility. This store has become an Eastern Shore icon becaue of its location, its services and the large mural depicting the Wild Horses of Assateague Island. The Assateague Ponies truly are wild horses that can kick and bite and even charge at vacationers. There are many signs along roadways through the park warning visited to keep their distance and to never, ever feed or pet the animals.
