Description
As most people who know me by now know, I am not fond of photographs and even when posing for this one there was this look of pain but I was trying hard to smile since it was for my finance who was in the Army at the time and in Viet Nam. He had written and asked for a photograph and even I will bend the rules for a request like that. Our camera's then were not all that great like they are now and my little sister was the photographer and told me where to stand and HOW TO DO IT. Hey she was the photographer and I had to obey her. So even though this brought bad some mixed emotions and feelings, I thought how much he would have loved for me to do just this and get wild with the photograph and do something totally unexpected with it. He did write and say he wore the original out looking at it so hopefully that was a good sign, unless it meant he was thinking OH LORD what have I gotten myself into. :) No he was a great guy, bashful and quiet but underneath that he had this quirky side also so I know he would so approve of this. He passed away back last October from cancer, so that also awoke some memories, not bad ones. We had fun and he married a wonderful girl and they were married for many years. But if he were still around I'd send this to both of them because she would get a kick out of it also. It is nice when you can remain friends and I think of both of them fondly. One of my cousins had dyed my hair blonde during the summer when I stayed with her family and during that time I kind of grew up a little so that when they took me home my dad came out to meet us and hugged all the cousins and when he got to me, he said, "Oh and who do we have here Nora? She's a pretty little thing." Nora laughed and said "Bob, that is your daughter." He said "No way, Debbie is just a little girl." Surprise Daddy, I grew up. They all had a huge laugh at poor dad's expense over that one. Poor Daddy took awhile getting use to seeing me in a different light, he stayed in shock for several days. So I turned this into an abstract and if my dad is watching from above, Poppy, I am sorry for upsetting you by growing up when you weren't looking. :) Please enjoy my quirky side, I'm afraid it came out today.

What a great story with this image, Debbie! I remember when my older sister came back from college for the first time after her Freshman quarter. Her brown hair was a bright blonde and boy, that took a while to get used to! Those are important steps out into the world . . . to boldly break with what was & step out into what will be . . . vf

As Steve said: " Those were strange times for sure." - Yes, the Vietnam times were strange indeed - and as they are right now again in the Virus beset Year of 2020. - Debra your striking Photo-Art depicts the then (and current) uncertainties and anxieties perfectly. - (and it is telling that the full resolution of your face looks like you are wearing a face-mask ! ! ! ) -

Nice mysterious image, it caught my eye because I saw a sixties girl in it. Then I read the story, nicely done. Those were strange times for sure.
