Lilium (members of which are true lilies) is a genus of herbaceous flowering plants growing from bulbs, all with large prominent flowers. Lilies are a group of flowering plants which are important in culture and literature in much of the world. Most species are native to the temperate northern hemisphere, though their range extends into the northern subtropics. Many other plants have "lily" in their common name but are not related to true lilies.

The botanic name Lilium is the Latin form and is a Linnaean name. The Latin name is derived from the Greek λείριον, le�rion, generally assumed to refer to true, white lilies as exemplified by the Madonna lily. The word was borrowed from Coptic (dial. Fayyumic) hleri, from standard hreri, from Demotic hrry, from Egyptian hrṛt "flower". Meillet maintains that both the Egyptian and the Greek word are possible loans from an extinct, substratum language of the Eastern Mediterranean. The Greeks also used the word κρῖνον, krīnon, albeit for non-white lilies.
The term "lily" has in the past been applied to numerous flowering plants, often with only superficial resemblance to the true lily, including lotus, ranunculus, tulip, iris, anemone, agapanthus, zantedeschia, daylily, and others. All English translations of the Bible render the Hebrew shūshan, shōshan, shōshannā as "lily", but the "lily among the thorns" of Song of Solomon, for instance, may be the honeysuckle.

About the artist: Marcello's Biography
The author was born in Argentina in 1965, and lived there until 1990. Afterwards, he moved to Italy and left 15 years of pastoral ministry behind when something had exploded inside of him that caused the beginning of a profound change. From then on, he began painting, reading books, writing his thoughts, showing his art and attended courses of self-improvement.
Because of his continuous search for personal fulfillment in doing new things, he realizes that nothing a human can do or have, can ever add or detract from their true identity and that any aid that a man can have, comes from a source that seems to be within himself. In 2009 he moved to the State of Washington, USA, where he lives and works.
Marcello is an Everett, WA (USA) based artist. He founds inspiration in focusing on the brush "stroke" he can accomplish at this exact moment.

"I've sold mostly originals. In fact, I have a few originals in my possession right now and all the rest is gone, but not their images... they last forever. I started showing my art at the end of 2005 in Italy... it was a challenge and I embraced it. "
"What I feel is a strong desire to pick up a brush and stain some canvas, crazy things and incoherent patterns like... red sounds, yellows whispers, orange melodies or blue hisses. Waves, spaces, distances, flowers and leaves. Light, time, protection and love! All those things I mentioned know where to go, they choose which place to occupy on the canvas. How many times have they told me what they wanted! I have only fulfilled their desires. Nothing is missing in my life. I have body, soul and spirit. And love... which loves me."
