I've been wanting to shoot this small church near Goldfield Ghost Town outside of Phoenix, Arizona for some time. I was excited about the clouds but when I got there a car was parked parallel to the fence which ruined the composition I had envisioned with the mountains in the background. The front bumper of the car is right at the right edge of the crop. There was probably a half acre of available parking. When I came back the car was gone, but so were the clouds.
I just found out this is also known as the Elvis Memorial Chapel. It was originally at the Apacheland Movie Ranch and was one of two buildings spared from a fire in 1969. It was later deconstructed and moved to the Superstition Mountain Museum location outside Phoenix. This chapel was in a movie that starred Elvis in the only movie he made, out of 31, that did NOT have him sing any songs on screen. This is how it became known as the Elvis Memorial Chapel. The movie? Charro!
