Horizontal color landscape photograph featuring a large Pacific madrone tree near the edge of Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park, in the state of Washington, USA. Some white sky can be seen at the top of the frame, above the Olympic Mountains and waters of Lake Crescent. No people.
According to Coniferous Forest, one source of information on trees in Washington State, the Pacific madrone has reddish-brown, scaly bark and only grows near salt water. It has broad leaves but does not lose them in winter. Also called a bayberry or strawberry tree.
Nikon D80, Nikkor 50mm/f1.8 lens, with circular polarizer and ND filter, shot outdoors with available light. No special effects.
