Ancient Greek Woman
Photograph - Photograph
Parian marble statue from the grave of Phrasikleia, an ancient Greek woman. The statue is larger than life and is known as a kore, a type of free-standing statue form of a female, one of the typical forms of the Archaic style. It still shows the beautiful curves and patterns of the garment, called a chiton, as well as some of the original painted colours. Made by the sculptor Aristion from Paros, ca. 550-540 BCE.
