Description
There is a wild tree stand edging a field nearby me where I go hiking through and this is one of the trees or shrub that is blossoming these white blossoms. I am fairly sure this is a type of Privet. It must have been ‘deposited’ in this wild area by birds. It is really sweet smelling and attracting the bees and butterflies like this American Lady Butterfly. It is always a joy for me to go out hiking through the field meadows and find these interesting things.
This Privet (Texanum) is a wax leaf and can grow up to 6 to 8 feet tall. This one was about 8 feet tall so it must have been there a long time. They flower in the late Spring with these pretty little white blossoms.
American Lady butterflies are in the Nymphalidae family of butterflies and can be seen across most of the United States of America. They can reach up to 2 inches in size and are commonly seen all over the United States.
