Description

This bird spreading its wings seems to be showing off for its neighbor who is admiring the large wingspan. This is the entrance to Saquatucket Harbor in Harwichport, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The Freedom Ferry is docked in the harbor and takes passengers back and forth to Nantucket. The water birds line up on the jetty to sun themselves and seem to wave to the passengers.

Saquatucket Harbor was named after the native Americans who inhabited this shore from Harwich Port to Brewster on the lands familiar to local historians as the Quason purchase.The photograph taken by harbormaster Tom Leach shows clear evidence of a an existing marsh.

Cape Cod is a peninsula in the shape of an arm off the U.S. state of Massachusetts. It is a popular summertime destination for its quaint villages, seafood shacks, lighthouses, freshwater glacier ponds, and bays and beaches. Visitors can board ferries in Hyannis and Harwich Port to cruise over to the Cape islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Cape Cod extends from Provincetown at the northeast tip of the fingers to Woods Hole in the upper arm in the southwest. Chatham is located mid-Cape at the elbow.
