Life is a funny thing. Each day, we really work hard towards some random goal that our minds have convinced us is extremely important that day. Most of the time, those goals are meaningless in the whole scheme of things. Very little of the stuff that we do will be remembered, or will last for very long. Very little in life lasts forever, some might say nothing does. When death comes, we just leave everything behind; all the belongings, all the things we have accumulated just stay in place, empty, still and quiet. Looking at a life that was well lived, but cut short suddenly, makes me pause to reflect.
The impacts of our actions and the resonance of our words do live on in many we pass by in our lives. Thomas Campbell wrote, "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die." The strongest among us will still one day return to the Earth. Nothing lasts forever . . . but in the deep loss . . . occasionally that dreaded dark curtain will part and a loving hand reaches through with a gentle touch on the shoulder, a tender hug, an encouraging sign and then I feel the infinite and know that yes, some things do last forever.
It has been a dark year, but I hope you are doing ok and still feeling hope. Life is hard, but so worth the struggle. Give it your all everyday. Embrace the good and the bad for it is all life. Hug those you can and tell everyone you care about that you love them as often as you can!

Wonderful idea for an abstract...evocative...excellent work, Karen! Powerful sentiments in your description. It made me think of a quote from the film "The Great Beauty" which I saw again recently: "This is how it always ends. With death. But first there was life. Hidden beneath the blah, blah, blah. It's all settled beneath the chitter chatter and the noise. Silence and sentiment. Emotion and fear. The haggard, inconstant flashes of beauty. And then the wretched squalor and miserable humanity. All buried under the cover of the embarrassment of being in the world, blah, blah, blah... Beyond there is what lies beyond. I don't deal with what lies beyond. Therefore... let this novel begin. After all... it's just a trick. Yes, it's just a trick." L/F
