Above The Gravel Pit 1937 By Emily Carr
Painting - Oil On Canvas
Above the Gravel Pit by Emily Carr
In this famous Carr painting, the painter depicts the impact of logging on the natural landscape.
Notice how Carr has joined the bare earth to the sky by combining rich swirling earth tones to the swirling blue and purple sky.
This is a spiritual painting "with a wide open sky with lots of movement" in the artist's own words.
Carr had seen a number of Van Gogh paintings during her time spent in France (1911) and Chicago (1930). The sky in Carr's painting was clearly influenced by Van Gogh but in a unique stye that was all Carr.
This image was created by photographing the original painting with a professional high-definition Leica camera. If you look closely, you can see the individual brushstrokes in the painting. It is not a copy from the internet. With the exceptional photography and exacting standards of color, this guarantees that you get the finest quality possible.
The watermark in the lower right hand corner of the picture does not appear on the final print.
