Abandoned Farm Equipment Capitol Reef National Park Utah
Photograph - Photography And Digital Art
White European settlers came to the area around what is now Capitol Reef National Park in the late 1800s, establishing many small towns along the Fremont River including Fruita. Fruita settlers recognized the abundance and accessibility of water and heat that reflected off canyon walls to the soil. An early settler named Nels Johnson planted the first orchards of apples, peaches, pears, plums, walnut, and almond trees. No more than ten families at a time lived in the area, the last ones leaving Fruita in the mid-20th century. This wagon, left abandoned in a field, was likely an important piece of their farm equipment.
