It is A Moment in Time – a moment in which time stays still as precious minutes go by, and a couple in love finds enchantment and romance in each other’s arms.
A companion piece to Just the Two of us (also on this site), a Moment in Time stands on its own as a celebration of romance and dance, loving and being loved, the glitter of a special evening and the soft shadows of a quiet enclave where one can be alone for just a short while.
Because this is a representational painting, A Moment in Time invites the viewer to create the story of the painting, embellishing the details with each view of the painting, and even changing details as time goes on.
Is this couple at a wedding dance? Are they the newly wedded couple themselves, the bride changed into a different dress for the reception evening? Or are they guests at the wedding, who have possibly met just this evening and discovered that they are two who think as one? Or is this not a wedding at all, but a special ball, a romantic dance event, such that we rarely see in real life, but watch so much in the movies and read about in books that we know such events must exist?
Such is the charm and freedom of representational art that it allows our imagination to flow freely through our thoughts, creating and making, adding to and taking away, and sometimes simply looking at the image and losing ourselves in the beauty of it.
A Moment in Time invites the viewer to join the young couple on the dance floor, whether or not we can dance ourselves, because for this moment, we are that couple, and we are lost in that stopped, stolen moment in which we have eyes for no one else in the room.
