Description
This interesting insect was gathering nectar from a Gregg’s Mist flower bloom. This is a type of firefly called Photinus which are the most common of fireflies in North America. I first thought it was a type of beetle but when researching another bug I saw an images of fireflies and was able to ID this one.
Fireflies like this (Photinus pyralis) are called a Common Eastern Firefly. They are a type of beetle in the Lampyridae family of bugs. There are actually thousands of firefly species across the world.
