Title
199 Radio Caroline
Artist
Joan-Violet Stretch
Medium
Painting - Painting Gouache
Description
I painted this in the 1960's, a painting in gouache of my beloved transistor radio that I received from my dad for my 18th birthday. A GEC radio, this is rare because on the wave band dial is radio Caroline, in pink, the illegal pirate floating radio station off the coast of The Isle of Man that was so popular then. This transistor radio company dared to put Radio Caroline on their wave band dial and sold it out, I was lucky to get one, they had to take it off later. Radio Caroline was disbanded by a court order due to its radio piracy before the end of the 1960's and the BBC had to launch a replacement, so Radio 1 was born. This item is an antique of that era I was inspired to paint it then, I have fond memories of when I used it and to have it preserved in a painting was a good choice of subject that's grown with age...looks great as a rectangular throw pillow and phone cases
